“It is alleged that at approximately 1am, armed suspects entered the victim’s home and shot him multiple times while he was asleep. The victim succumbed to his injuries. The motive is unknown at this stage,” said Pillay. Police have since intensified their search for the perpetrators.

Community Outrage and Call for Action

The shooting has sent shockwaves through the Shallcross community, which continues to grapple with violent crime. Reverend Ethan Ramkuar of the Survival Centre NPO voiced frustration over the persistent gang-related violence, drugs, and lack of accountability.

“We are sick and tired. Where is law enforcement? Where is the independent National Prosecuting Authority?” asked Rev Ramkuar.
He added that the community plans to approach the Office of the Public Protector, demanding justice and change.

“Shallcross has been decaying under current political leadership. Enough is enough,” he said.
