Fleurhof community leader and activist Althea Curtis said the mother of slain 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek needs to be kept in prison for her safety.

On Friday, Tiffany Nicole Meek appeared at the Roodeport Magistrate’s Court for her bail application.

Meek is charged on multiple accounts, including the brutal murder of her son.

Jayden Lee Meek’s brutally beaten body was found in front of the flat he and his mother shared.

Community leader, Althea Curtis, shared that she was hurt by the turn of events with the case.

Knowing that she knew that from the start, and so she walked with us. And there’s one thing that she said there in court, we supported her, we never supported her. Everyone that knows me, I supported Jayden-Lee Meek. I went to Parliament for Jayden-Lee Meek. I arranged, not only me, we were a group of people that arranged campouts, protests, hashtags.”

She added that Tiffany should not be granted bail.

“I’m in support for her own safety, even though I’m angry. No words can express how I feel, but she’s still a human being. And if she gets out, the community is not going to leave her. For her safety, Tiffany, stay inside.”
