While some displaced residents have started rebuilding their homes on Monday, some said they need more intervention from the government, pointing to permanent housing.
This is the fourth large-scale fire to hit the community this winter season.
Authorities are on Monday expected to update residents on relief measures.
KZN Cooperative Governance spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila said: “There is a number of interventions that the MEC will announce that the department is doing to help the affected families and also to mitigate these ongoing informal settlement fires that we continue to experience, specifically in this area.”
Preliminary reports indicate that over 120 shacks were destroyed, with 100 people housed at the nearest community shelter.
