The City of Cape Town said its new waste management strategy will ensure a cleaner city, where residents and businesses have access to affordable, quality waste services.
Mayco Member for Urban Waste Management Grant Twigg said the new strategy supports the city’s long-term environmental goals, including emissions reduction and climate resilience.
Twigg said the strategy has three specific actions.
New waste management strategy
“Optimising existing services, minimising waste to landfill and maximising the basket of services offerings supported by clearly defined roles and responsibilities and timeframes.”
Twigg explained the new plan is a city-wide call to action.
“Through better use of data, innovation solutions, and active collaboration, we can make Cape Town a model of clean sustainable urban living.”
Twigg said Cape Town is the first metro in the country to adopt a formal city waste strategy.
