After rate increases to 3%, meat continues to be main driver of food inflation

Meat, particularly beef, continues to be the main driver of food inflation.

Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said beef prices spiked for a third successive month, with high annual and monthly increases recorded.

This is contained in Stats SA’s latest consumer price inflation report, which showed an increase to 3% in June.

This comes after it held steady at 2.8% in April and May.

Stats SA said the annual rate for food and non-alcoholic beverages reached a 15-month high in June.
