Trade union Solidarity said the deadlock in negotiations with FlySafair is primarily due to unresolved issues around the airline’s roster system, rather than salary demands.
The union and the airline have been involved in several discussions under the supervision of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) since earlier this week as efforts continue to reach an agreement.
The ongoing pilots’ strike and lockout, which began on Monday, have forced the local carrier to cancel numerous flights this week.
Deadlock with Flysafair
Solidarity criticised FlySafair for failing to address what it called exhausting work schedules, saying pilots are demanding predictable rosters, improved work-life balance, and adequate rest between duties.
In a statement, the union said its members are calling for a structured roster with at least one guaranteed weekend off per month, along with a functioning joint scheduling committee to help manage shift planning.
Solidarity has also made it clear that salaries are not the central issue, adding that the current pay offer is largely acceptable to its members.
The trade union said that should pilots reject FlySafair’s latest offer, it will once again approach the CCMA in hopes of finding a resolution.
