NCOP meets KZN SAPS top brass, shortage of police resources tops agenda! The shortage of police resources in KwaZulu-Natal was a big part of the agenda on Monday in the meeting between the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) and police management.
NCOP members and KZN police top brass were locked in a closed-door meeting at the SAPS headquarters.
And although the meeting comes weeks after KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi made allegations of corruption in law enforcement, the council of provinces did not focus on this.

The head of the delegation, Mzamo Billy, explained what was discussed.
“We’ve got to find a way of addressing some of those issues and see how best that we can be able to assist, there’s a lot of issues, on the agenda we’ve got issues of resourcing police, police vehicles and police stations not capacitated enough, budget not enough and not enough men and women on our streets.”
Meanwhile, committee member Mxolisi Kaunda said the NCOP will also look into the issue of bylaws in municipalities, for local authorities to be able to assist the South African Police Service (SAPS) in fighting crime.
“We’ve agreed to elevate some of the matters that were raised by the police, especially on the environmental design, where municipalities are expected to enforce bylaws, and some of the bylaws are not put in place in some of the municipalities. We did respond that we are going to make follow-ups.”
