Man charged with culpable homicide in 2023 bus accident near Swellendam due in court! A 56-year-old man charged for the fatal bus accident which claimed the lives of five people on the N2 near Swellendam in 2023 is expected to appear in the Swellendam Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Five parishioners from different Anglican churches in Cape Town were killed, and close to 50 other passengers were injured when their bus overturned.

It’s believed that the driver lost control of the passenger bus and is now facing culpable homicide charges.

What was supposed to be a joyful church reunion turned into tragedy on 28 April two years ago, when five parishioners were killed in a bus accident near Swellendam.

More than 40 other passengers were injured, and those in a serious condition were airlifted to the nearest hospitals for medical treatment.

The parishioners from several Anglican churches were on their way back to Cape Town from a church retreat near George.

The bus driver is said to have lost control of the bus and landed on its side in the middle of the N2 highway.

He was charged with culpable homicide in August last year.
