Lobby group AfriForum said it would consult with legacy organisations that withdrew from the national convention before making a decision on the National Dialogue.

The group announced its withdrawal from the convention on Tuesday, saying it had been hijacked by the African National Congress (ANC).

It said that when it was initially invited by groups, such as the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, it was willing to participate.

But last week, the foundations that were part of the planning also withdrew from the convention planned for this weekend, saying it had been rushed.

AfriForum’s Kallie Kriel said they would still work to add pressure on the National Dialogue planning team.

The reason that we are holding this media conference, is to make sure that we put more media pressure on the process and we will also engage further with the various foundations to strategise and speak what can be done to change this process.”
