Home Affairs puts contingency plans to accommodate Germiston residents! The Home Affairs Department said it has put in place contingency plans to accommodate the public served by the torched Home Affairs building in Germiston, Ekurhuleni.
On Tuesday, a demonstration led by angry residents being evicted from their homes in a block of flats in Pharoe Park set the structure alight.
Home Affairs Deputy Minister Njabulo Nzuza, who inspected the building on Wednesday, said four mobile units have been placed at the city’s civic centre to help resume services.

Home Affairs Deputy Minister Njabulo Nzuza said the Department has managed to service at least 100 people today using mobile units placed at the civic centre, out of the 500 that this branch normally services per day.
The top floor of the building, which served as an immigration floor, is in complete ruin, which the minister said has caused an extreme backlog for immigration services.
“For us, this is a very serious setback that has a lot of criminality. We are going to make sure that we follow up with the police so that those who have done wrong are brought to justice.”
Nzuza also expressed relief that there was no loss of life during the incident, and has reassured the public that services are continuing.
