Thembisile Patekile: Heightened police visibility to remain in place in Muizenberg until order restored! Communities in the Muizenberg area recently rocked by deadly gang violence have been put under police lockdown.

Last week, seven people were killed in multiple mass shootings in the Overcome Heights and Xakabantu informal settlements.

Police said they were looking for several people, some of whom had just come out of prison, who were allegedly behind the shootings.

Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile said they were going to do everything possible to bring the people behind the recent mass shootings in Muizenberg to book.

Patekile and his deputies visited the areas on Tuesday, where different police operations were carried out.

Patekile said that all known gang and drug houses would be thoroughly searched.

“Also, we are looking at wanted suspects in these areas. We’re looking for guns and drugs because there is a relationship between guns, drugs, and gang members.”

He added that the heightened police visibility would be in place until order had been re-established.
