COSATU will meet with its sister union, NEHAWU, on how to approach the issue of social workers being attacked.
The union federation believes that there needs to be effective communication between departments to address the matter.
It expressed concern with the number of social workers who have been attacked in the past year and four months.

COSATU’s Western Cape chairperson, Motlatsi Tsubane, said they were deeply concerned with the recent rise of general violence in the country.
“We are concerned about the safety of police. Police are being killed on duty, off duty, we are concerned about that, as well as social workers. Therefore, what then has to happen is for organisations to sit down and come up with mechanisms, because crime is rife in our country.”
Tsubane added that when social workers were attacked, it directly affects the vulnerable members of a community.
“When social workers come into our areas and they are attacked, that simply means it is an attack on our people at the end of the day.”
