Former African National Congress (ANC) spokesperson Pule Mabe and his wife, Matlhekelo, are due back in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where they are facing charges of fraud and corruption.
The couple, together with five co-accused, including Mabe’s cousin, face multiple counts of money laundering and contravention of the Public Finance Management Act.
These charges stem from an irregular R27 million tender awarded in 2017 to Mabe’s Enviro Mobi company to provide 200 three-wheeler motorbikes for waste pickers in Ekurhuleni.

Parliament’s code of conduct prohibits MPs from doing business with the state, which means their companies cannot benefit from tenders or government contracts.
The State maintains that Mabe was still a member of Parliament when his company secured the R27 million tender, but the former ANC spokesperson claims he had already resigned from the House when he got the contract.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) also accuses Mabe’s company of failing to disclose its ties to him when it bid for the contract.
At Mabe’s last court appearance, the State requested more time to finalise the charge sheet, which has since been handed to the defence.
The case resumes on Wednesday morning after a two-month postponement.
