The Commission for Gender Equality is welcoming a probe into alleged forced sterilisations of HIV-positive women at state hospitals.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has appointed a task team to look into the matter.
He says no government policy permits any woman to be forcefully sterilised.
In February, The Gender Commission found that at least 48 women were allegedly forced or coerced to undergo sterilisation.
All had given birth at public health facilities in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal several years ago.
