Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni has described the attempted hijacking of his deputy as random.
Speaking on the sidelines of a policing operation in De Deur on Thursday morning, Mthombeni said crime can happen to anyone.
On Monday, armed suspects travelling in a BMW tried to hijack the driver of Gauteng Deputy Police Commissioner Fred Kekana.

The suspects followed the constable and smashed the window of his state vehicle outside Kekana’s home in Westonaria.
When the constable shot at them, they fled the scene.
Mthombeni said there were no leads on this case so far.
“It became evident that such a crime has been committed, and we are proceeding with the investigation.”
He added that investigations were continuing.
“The issue of the linkage is something which, as time goes on, is something we will share with the community and the media if there is somebody who happens to be linked and ultimately arrested.”
