Skeem Saam’s Lethabo Mekoa (Ntswaki) opens up about her journey and missed opportunity! Actress Lethabo Mekoa, best known for her role as Ntswaki on Skeem Saam, revealed that she joined the popular soapie at a time when her dreams had just been crushed.
The 20-year-old was awarded a R1 million scholarship to study acting overseas, personally granted by filmmaker Tyler Perry. However, due to financial constraints and the high cost of living abroad, she had to turn the opportunity down.
“While I was mourning the loss of that scholarship, I got a call from Skeem Saam saying I got the role. It was a blessing in disguise,” she shared during an interview on Y.

Finding Her Feet in the Industry
Since joining the show, Lethabo has quickly made a name for herself, earning accolades within just two years. “It’s only been two years in the industry, and I’m already clocking an award,” she said.
Living Through Her Character
Lethabo shared both admiration and discomfort regarding her role as Ntsoaki. “I love how I can be in someone else’s shoes and realise that it’s not nice. What I dislike is that she does bad things, and I end up getting crucified for it outside,” she admitted.
Faith and Family as Her Pillars
She stays grounded through prayer, saying, “There’s a lot we are dealing with individually. The best thing is to pray.”
She credits her mother for giving her the advice that changed her life: “She once told me to never shrink to be accepted. That changed everything for me.”
