Award-winning actress Nelisiwe Sibiya is stepping into a new television role as the lead of e.tv’s upcoming drama series, Land of Mills and Money.
The new series brings together a heavyweight cast and a story packed with crime, family secrets, ambition, romance and township politics.
Sibiya plays Phiwe, a determined young police officer whose life changes dramatically after she becomes caught up in a heist and is left carrying a secret that could put everything she has built at risk.

The actress, who is a South African Film and Television Award winner, takes centre stage in what promises to be one of e.tv’s major new primetime dramas.
A police officer with a dangerous secret
Phiwe is introduced as a strong-willed police officer who is committed to her career and determined to do the right thing.
But that resolve is tested after a fateful encounter during a heist.
Rather than simply walking away from what happened, Phiwe makes a decision that changes the course of her life.
She is forced to protect a secret from both her family and her colleagues, creating a growing tension between her professional responsibilities and her personal circumstances.
Her secret also attracts the attention of Mazwi Mhlongo, a powerful township matriarch played by veteran actress Winnie Ntshaba.
Mazwi quickly recognises that Phiwe’s vulnerability could give her leverage.
What follows places Phiwe in a dangerous position as she attempts to keep control of her life while dealing with people who may have their own agendas.
A complicated love story
Crime and family drama are not the only challenges facing Phiwe.
At the heart of the series is also a complicated romance involving Muzi Mhlongo, played by Zamani Mbatha.
Phiwe loves Muzi, but the decision she makes following the heist creates circumstances that prevent the couple from being together.
Their relationship therefore becomes intertwined with the central mystery surrounding Phiwe.

The question is whether love can survive when one person is carrying a secret capable of destroying everything around them.
A powerful ensemble cast
Sibiya is joined by an impressive line-up of South African actors.
The cast includes:
Themba Ndaba as Melusi
Jo-Anne Reyneke as Thembi
Sphelele Luthuli as Khwezi
Mbali Ngiba as Gog’Sindi
Kenneth Nkosi as Pastor Caiphus
Thandeka Qwabe as Nondumiso Simelane
Gcinile Nkosi as Mam’Dee
Winnie Ntshaba as Mazwi Mhlongo
Zamani Mbatha as Muzi Mhlongo
The combination of established performers and younger talent gives the series a broad ensemble capable of carrying several interconnected storylines.
Taking over e.tv’s 7pm slot
Land of Mills and Money will make its debut on Monday, August 31, 2026, taking over e.tv’s 7pm primetime slot.
The series replaces the Afrikaans drama Kelders van Geheime as the channel reshapes its evening programming.
For e.tv, the 7pm slot is strategically important because it brings families together at the beginning of the channel’s primetime schedule.
Helga Palmer, Group Head of Content Development and Strategy at eMedia, said the new drama forms part of the broadcaster’s plans to strengthen its evening local-content offering.
The channel is positioning its schedule from 7pm through to 11pm as an uninterrupted run of locally produced daily dramas.
A story built around power and survival
The title Land of Mills and Money hints at a world where ambition, wealth and power intersect.
The series appears set to explore how ordinary people can become caught between competing interests when money and influence enter their lives.
For Phiwe, that conflict is particularly dangerous because of her position as a police officer.
Her job demands integrity and accountability, while her secret creates an increasingly difficult situation in which doing what is expected of her could expose the very thing she is desperate to protect.
That tension is likely to form the backbone of the series.
Nelisiwe Sibiya takes on another major role
For Sibiya, the role represents another significant addition to an already impressive acting career.
The award-winning performer has become a familiar face on South African television, earning recognition for her ability to portray emotionally complex characters.
Her casting as Phiwe places her at the centre of a story that requires both vulnerability and strength.
Phiwe is not simply a police officer caught in a difficult situation. She is also a woman trying to protect her family, navigate love and survive in an environment where powerful people can use secrets as weapons.
That combination gives Sibiya plenty of dramatic territory to explore.
Grounded Productions behind the series
Land of Mills and Money is produced by Grounded Productions.
Khanyi Nxumalo and Thomas Gumede serve as executive producers, while Ayanda Halimana is the head writer.
The creative team is responsible for bringing together the show’s crime, romance and family storylines while establishing the world in which Phiwe and the other characters operate.
With its daily-drama format and high-profile cast, the series is designed to become part of viewers’ nightly television routine.
What viewers can expect
At its core, Land of Mills and Money promises a mixture of crime, romance, family conflict, secrets and power struggles.
Phiwe’s decision during the heist sets the story in motion, but its consequences extend far beyond that single incident.
Her secret places her career at risk, threatens her relationships and gives Mazwi an opportunity to exert control over her.
Meanwhile, Phiwe and Muzi must contend with a love story complicated by circumstances neither can easily escape.
With a cast featuring some of the country’s most recognisable performers, the series is clearly aiming to make an immediate impact in e.tv’s primetime schedule.
‘Land of Mills and Money’ premieres on e.tv on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 7pm.
