The initiative, launched to help underprivileged university students cover registration fees, raised an impressive R2 million with contributions from Lasizwe, celebrity allies, and public donors.
However, soon after its conclusion, online speculation arose about the handling of the funds. Allegations of fraud and mismanagement quickly spread, despite multiple statements clarifying the campaign’s outcome.
Lasizwe Breaks His Silence Again
In a candid post on X (formerly Twitter), Lasizwe opened up about how the accusations have continued to affect him. “Four years ago, I was dragged through the mud over claims that I stole R2 million yama students, which was false and lies. Till this day, that accusation still haunts me,” he wrote.
The Drink or Tell the Truth host revealed the emotional toll the ordeal took, saying: “I’m seeing people joking about it now, but you don’t understand the damage it caused. I’ve spent four years trying to clear my name from something I didn’t do.”
Lingering Division Among Fans
Though the campaign reportedly benefited 166 students, public opinion remains divided. Some fans continue to defend Lasizwe, praising his efforts, while others remain skeptical, leaving the controversy unresolved in the court of public opinion.
