Rebecca Malope wins R1 million in legal settlement! Gospel music legend Rebecca Malope has reportedly received R1 million after settling a legal battle with Procter & Gamble South Africa.
The case centered on the unauthorised use of her image on Ariel washing powder packaging years after their original agreement ended.
Rebecca Malope wins
Malope first partnered with the brand in 2016, becoming the face of Ariel. While the deal was renewed multiple times, it officially expired in September 2022.
Despite this, her image continued appearing on products until as late as 2025, prompting her to file a lawsuit at the Pretoria High Court in April 2025.
Rebecca Speaks Out on the Ordeal
In an interview with City Press, Malope expressed disappointment over the dispute, saying, “All we asked was to address the fact that I haven’t been paid, despite my image being used for the past couple of years. Instead of working with us to resolve it, they were just not cooperative.”
The singer described the battle as stressful, given her decades-long career. “I’ve been working in this industry for over 36 years… I take my work seriously. I’m a professional and I absolutely love what I do.”
Settlement Brings Closure
The out-of-court settlement ensures Malope is compensated, finally closing a chapter in the dispute and safeguarding her professional legacy.
