Nonkanyiso “LaConco” Conco has announced a renewed push into the coal mining industry, marking a return to a sector she previously stepped away from after an earlier business attempt in 2022.
The television personality and entrepreneur shared images from a mining site in Mpumalanga, reflecting on her evolving journey in the commodities space and her decision to revisit the industry with new perspective and experience.
Taking to Instagram, she revisited her first introduction to the coal business, describing it as both eye-opening and challenging.
“Dear coal, we cross paths again. I was first introduced to coal business by a good female friend back in 2022,” she wrote.
LaConco explained that her initial experience in the sector exposed her to the complexities of the business world, including difficult lessons around trust, partnerships and the high-risk nature of commodities trading.
“Entering the world of commodities opened my eyes to both opportunity and the harsh realities of greed, betrayal, loss and dishonesty. It became overwhelming, and I had to step away,” she added.
Despite those setbacks, she says her return is driven by a renewed sense of purpose and a desire to better understand an industry that plays a significant role in the South African economy.
“I am here ready to learn, grow, build meaningful relations, and understand this industry that powers economies, communities, and infrastructure. The smell of the dust, the sound of the machines, and the energy of this environment fulfills my heart,” she wrote.
LaConco also hinted that her entrepreneurial motivation is deeply personal, referencing her son, Sakhaumuzi Zuma, as a key inspiration behind her drive to build and expand her business interests.
The former reality TV star has increasingly positioned herself as a business-minded public figure in recent years, exploring ventures beyond entertainment as she continues to build her brand.
Her return to coal mining has sparked conversation online, with supporters praising her ambition while others question the risks and complexities of entering the commodities sector.
