FORMER Radio DJ Ngizwe Mchunu will be appearing at the Randburg Magistrates Court for the first time on Thursday, 21 October after he was granted bail in July this year.
Mchunu was released on R2000 bail after the defense convinced the magistrate that he was not a flight risk and would adhere to the bail conditions imposed on him.
Mchunu is one of many people who were arrested in connection with the July unrest that wreaked havoc in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
He is alleged to have instigated the violence through his social media accounts. The videos of himself that he posted were the same ones used against him as the evidence.
However, the evidence the prosecution brought during the bail application was not enough to keep Mchunu behind bars as there was no proof of inciting violence by the accused.
The prosecutor, however, told the court that there is evidence that would link the accused to the violence, but it will come at a later stage during the trial.
The case against Zamaswazi Majozi, who is behind the ‘Sphithiphithi Evaluator’ Twitter account was also in court this week. It has been delayed and postponed to next month for further investigations.
