Zozibini Tunzi calls for renewed conversation on HIV/Aids awareness! Former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi has raised concerns about the declining conversation around HIV/Aids.
The 31-year-old beauty queen shared a video on her TikTok, explaining that she had a conversation with young girls who didn’t seem to know much about the virus and disease.
She said the young mums opened up about struggling with unplanned motherhood.

One joked, asking how she managed to avoid having kids by age 30.
However, the conversation didn’t sit well with Zozibini.
“We laughed about this briefly, but I was very concerned, and so I said to her, ‘You know there are so many ways that you actually can prevent pregnancy, you could do it by abstaining or using protection’. Then I said to her, much more than just pregnancy, I’m worried that you might get sick, you might contract a disease.
“I could see a light bulb in her eyes and just a shift of energy in the room as well. I thought maybe this was something that they hadn’t considered or had a conversation about in a very long time. So, we just started to have this conversation about HIV and Aids, and I realised in that moment that I haven’t seen a lot of people in a while talk about it,” said.

Zozibini said she realised that she also hadn’t had that conversation in a long time.
“There has recently been a statistic that I saw that said women and young girls between 15 and 24 years old are mostly impacted by HIV and Aids. And it broke my heart so much.
They said that some of the reasons were a lack of education, that we have an inadequate health system, and there are still a lot of cultural taboos around HIV and Aids.
“I’m not a healthcare professional, and so I thought of what I could do to combat HIV and Aids. I have a platform, I have a voice, and I can just come on here and have a conversation because that’s how I learnt growing up about HIV and Aids.
“I had a lot of conversations with my mother, I had a lot of conversations in schools about it and because I was aware it opened my mind a lot. I could protect myself,” she said.
Zozibini urged the conversations to start again.
“Let’s go back to talking to our mothers about these things as well help ourselves learn a little bit more about how we can prevent this disease. Believe it or not, it is very much preventable through awareness and education,” she said.
