South African media personality Sizwe Dhlomo has sparked intense debate on social media after reacting to reports that former radio presenter Unathi Nkayi was allegedly arrested for drunk driving.
The controversy began after Dhlomo reshared a post about the alleged incident on X, accompanied only by the eyes emoji. While brief, the post immediately drew widespread attention, with social media users divided over whether his reaction was justified or unnecessarily provocative.
Some users accused Dhlomo of continuing to target Nkayi years after their highly publicised fallout at Kaya 959. One user, @KhaiJorge, commented: “Clearly unengxaki…. Leave this woman alone, we know you don’t like her.. but yuuuh ha.a excuse yourself.”

Dhlomo did not hold back in his response. Replying directly to the criticism, he wrote: “You’re 100% correct! I do have a problem with false accusers, drunk drivers & liars. So should you actually.”
The exchange reignited public discussion around the dramatic fallout between the two broadcasters in 2021 while they were both employed at Kaya 959. At the time, Nkayi accused Dhlomo of verbal abuse and unprofessional conduct following an altercation at the station. However, Dhlomo denied the allegations and reportedly submitted studio recordings to the station’s Human Resources department, which he claimed disproved her version of events.
Following the incident, Nkayi was dismissed from the station, leading to a lengthy and ongoing legal dispute involving Kaya 959. The matter drew major public attention at the time, with many South Africans debating workplace conduct, accountability and media ethics.

Dhlomo has since remained vocal about how deeply the situation affected him personally and professionally. In another response shared on X regarding Nkayi’s current controversy, he stated: “She’s getting exactly what she deserves. I’m unapologetic about that.”
During an appearance on L-Tido’s podcast in 2024, Dhlomo opened up further about the impact the fallout had on him, revealing that he had not seen Nkayi since her departure from the station. He explained that he viewed the allegations against him as a serious threat to his reputation and career.
“That was personal. If I didn’t have my ducks in a row, luckily I always do, then my career could have been ruined. That one I don’t take lightly, that’s to the death,” he said.
The latest social media exchange has once again placed both personalities in the spotlight, with online users continuing to debate whether Dhlomo’s reaction was understandable given their history, or whether it crossed a line. Meanwhile, supporters of both stars have continued defending their respective sides as the conversation trends online.
