Amapiano sensation Zee Nxumalo has firmly defended her latest international achievement after a social media user attempted to dismiss her appearance on a Spotify billboard in New York as a paid promotion.
The singer recently celebrated being featured on a Spotify EQUAL Africa billboard in New York City, sharing photos of the landmark moment with her followers and expressing excitement over the global recognition.

The billboard forms part of Spotify’s EQUAL Africa initiative, which highlights and promotes women who are making a significant impact in the music industry across the continent.
While many fans applauded the achievement, one social media user questioned its legitimacy, suggesting that the billboard placement had simply been paid for.
“You paid,” the user commented.
Clearly amused by the accusation, Zee responded with disbelief.
“I Paid for a billboard in New York? lol,” she replied.
The debate continued when another user argued that someone, whether Zee herself or her team, must have covered the cost of the billboard.
“lol yes it’s paid for… might be your or your label or distributor but it’s paid for,” the person wrote.
Not one to let the claim go unchallenged, Zee responded directly and clarified how the opportunity came about.

“1. Fix your grammar!
2 this is a Spotify billboard, they picked me to cover their billboard…
You can’t pay for accolades, you earn them.”
Her response quickly gained traction online, with many supporters praising her for defending her accomplishment and correcting misconceptions about the Spotify EQUAL programme.
Fans pointed out that being selected as a Spotify EQUAL Africa ambassador is a recognition earned through an artist’s impact, growth and contribution to music rather than something that can simply be purchased.
The milestone marks another significant moment in Zee Nxumalo’s rapidly rising career. Since breaking into the mainstream with hits such as Funk 55 and Ngisakuthanda, the singer has continued to build a strong fan base and establish herself as one of amapiano’s most promising young stars.
As her music reaches wider audiences across Africa and beyond, her New York billboard feature stands as another sign of her growing international profile and the increasing global influence of South African music
