Former Miss South Africa and Miss Supranational winner Lalela Mswane is preparing to swap evening gowns and pageant crowns for adventure, strategy and survival as she joins the celebrity cast of Tropika Island of Treasure Season 12.
The beauty queen, who has built a reputation for excellence on some of the world’s biggest pageant stages, is now taking on a completely different challenge on the popular reality competition series, which will be filmed on the picturesque island of La Réunion.
Known for her grace, poise and discipline, Mswane believes the same qualities that helped her succeed in pageantry will play a major role in her quest for victory on the island.
“Preparing for ‘Tropika Island of Treasure’ has reminded me that discipline and determination aren’t just qualities you switch on for big moments, they’re habits you build every single day,” she said.

To ensure she is ready for the demanding competition, Mswane has committed herself to an intensive fitness programme. Her current routine includes gym sessions five mornings a week, focusing on cardiovascular fitness, endurance training and strength-building exercises designed to prepare her for the physically demanding challenges contestants will face.
Beyond traditional workouts, she also incorporates ballet and Pilates into her schedule. The combination helps improve flexibility, balance, core strength and mental focus — all qualities that could prove invaluable in a competition where physical ability and concentration often determine success.
Unlike many reality show contestants who dramatically alter their diets before filming, Mswane says her approach to nutrition has remained largely unchanged.
“I’ve always maintained a fairly clean and balanced diet, so in the lead-up to the competition, my focus has simply been on staying consistent and nourishing my body in the best way possible,” she explained.

While physical preparation is important, Mswane believes the mental aspect of the game could be just as challenging. Contestants will not only battle through tough tasks but will also have to navigate social dynamics, alliances and strategic gameplay.
To prepare herself mentally, she has focused on strengthening her discipline, protecting her peace and staying connected to routines that keep her grounded.
“For me, preparation has looked like intentionally strengthening my discipline, protecting my peace and remaining connected to the things that keep me centred,” she said.
The former beauty queen added that maintaining healthy habits and making time for reflection have been key parts of her preparation process.
Although she has competed on major international stages and faced intense pressure before, Mswane believes authenticity remains her greatest advantage.
“Maintaining authenticity has always brought out the best results in everything I’ve pursued, so going into the show, I intend to remain unapologetically and authentically Lalela, just as I have on every platform and in every competition I’ve been a part of.”
When asked what will help her succeed on the island, Mswane points to two qualities that have defined her career: determination and grit.

“I’d say my greatest strengths are my willpower and sheer grit. Once I set my mind to something, I’m incredibly determined to see it through, regardless of the obstacles along the way.”
Beyond the competition itself, she is excited about experiencing the natural beauty and culture of La Réunion, an island renowned for its volcanic landscapes, lush forests, waterfalls and vibrant mix of African, European and Asian influences.
“I’m most excited to immerse myself in the beauty of La Réunion, from its breathtaking landscapes to the adventure and culture it has to offer,” she said.
Fans can expect to see a different side of Mswane as she steps away from the world of pageants and enters a game where physical endurance, social strategy and mental toughness are just as important as confidence and charisma.
With her disciplined mindset, competitive spirit and determination to succeed, Lalela Mswane could prove to be one of the standout contestants when Tropika Island of Treasure returns for its highly anticipated 12th season.
Tropika Island of Treasure Season 12 is set to premiere on S3 later this year.
