Belhar’s blackout raises concerns over copper cable theft! Weeks without power in Belhar, in the City of Cape Town has renewed copper cable theft concerns.
Five electricity boxes in extensions 7 and 14 were vandalised and stripped, leaving residents without power for nearly three weeks.

Eskom says copper cable theft is worsening, damaging public infrastructure putting lives at risk.
Some power has now been restored however Eskom is urging communities to report electricity-related crimes immediately.
The utility’s Kyle Cookson said “these recurring incidents causes a significant delay in electricity restoration efforts to our customers in these affected areas. Unfortunately, these residents have experienced prolonged power outages in recent days.”
