Actress Koketso Machaka made her debut on SABC1’s Skeem Saam on Monday.
The actress from Ga-Masheshane in Limpopo will be playing the role of Nthati, DJ Thomas’ (Tiisetso Thoka) girlfriend who stays in Pretoria and is about to become his wife. Nthati is ready to fight for her man and end his affair with Mapitsi, a married woman.

Speaking to the publication, Koketso says she was excited but nervous after landing the role because she knows Skeem Saam has a lot of viewers, and she was thinking about how people will receive her character on the show.
“I prepare myself by praying first and making sure that I’m aligned so I can play my character well. It’s my debut so I can’t say much about preparation but when I put God first, I know that’s all the preparation I need. I draw inspiration from a lot of actors and actresses, especially from Skeem Saam,” she said.
Koketso says what inspired her to pursue an acting career was that she had been doing “some extra scenes here and there” and studying journalism made her also want to be in the media. So, be it through acting, as a sport journalist or news reader, she knew she would end up on the TV screen.
“It’s been nothing but an amazing opportunity and experience to work with such incredibly talented actors and people that I used to see on TV growing up. Acting chose me because I’ve been running away from it, but it continued to call and I had to surrender and work. It’s not easy to balance work, acting and academics but with God’s grace I do,” she said.
She hopes to tell Nthati’s story to the viewers with passion and grow the character.
“I will say to the young South Africans who are looking to be in the acting space to believe in themselves and make sure they continue showing off their talents and skills on social media, and believe in God that he will open those doors.”
