Celebrities, influencers, and style icons are making their appearances in spectacular outfits, transforming the racecourse into a living runway of South African innovation and identity.

The Main Attraction Durban July: Race Seven

The highlight of the day is Race Seven, the main event that pits South Africa’s best middle-distance horses against each other over 2200 metres, with a R5 million prize purse at stake.

Returning to defend his crown is last year’s winner, Oriental Charm, a crowd favourite who’s once again drawn the coveted number one position. Stephen Marshall, from Race Coasts Events and Marketing, believes he’s still the one to beat.

“He’s back, and he’s looking even stronger. Drawing number one again gives him a huge advantage,” says Marshall. “He’s matured well and has everything going in his favour. But don’t count out the young contender wearing number 18 — he’s carrying 57 kilograms, something we haven’t seen in this race before. If he pulls off a win, it’ll be historic.”

Despite grey skies and rainy conditions, the energy on the ground remains high. Attendees are braving the weather in high spirits, ready to witness another thrilling chapter in Durban July history.

Road Closures and Security Measures

With crowds pouring into the Greyville area, eThekwini Metro Police have rolled out extensive traffic and safety plans to manage the influx and ensure smooth flow throughout the precinct.

Metro Police spokesperson Boysie Zungu confirmed that several road closures are in place. “We’ve implemented strategic closures to reduce congestion, particularly around key entry points to Greyville,” he said. “Only two roads are significantly affected — Avondale Road and DLI Street — but all intersections around the precinct will have officers deployed.”

Zungu emphasized the city’s commitment to safety throughout the weekend. “We’ll have a strong police presence — traffic officers, SAPS, and metro police will all be on site. At night, we’ll be conducting roadblocks to monitor for driving under the influence across all major regions. Safety remains our top priority.”

A Celebration of South African Excellence

As the horses thunder down the track and the country’s most fashionable step into the spotlight, the 2025 Hollywoodbets Durban July is proving once again why it remains unmatched. It’s not just about betting odds or fashion trends — it’s a celebration of everything that makes South Africa unique: resilience, flair, and the unstoppable spirit of Mzansi.
