South African rapper Nasty C is ushering in a new creative chapter with his latest release, “Big Timing”, featuring longtime collaborator Tellaman.

The track, lifted from FREE (Deluxe), sees the Durban-born artist reflecting on success, loyalty and personal growth, while celebrating the journey that has brought him to a more independent and self-directed stage in his career.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Nasty C explained that “Big Timing” came from a place of clarity and gratitude rather than pure ambition.

“I was in a very clear space when I made ‘Big Timing’. I wanted something that felt celebratory, but not empty. It is confidence, but it is also gratitude,” he said.

The single continues the momentum of FREE (Deluxe), which expanded on his fifth studio album FREE. The project marked a significant turning point in his career, coming shortly after he established his own record label, Tall Racks Records, signalling a shift toward full creative control.

For Nasty C, the new track represents more than just music — it reflects a mindset shaped by perseverance and long-term growth.

“It is me looking around and realising that the people that I started with are still here, and we are not just surviving anymore, we are moving properly now,” he explained.

Built on smooth, melodic production, “Big Timing” highlights the natural chemistry between Nasty C and Tellaman, two artists whose collaboration dates back to their early days in Durban. Tellaman, known for blending R&B, soul and contemporary African sounds, has long been considered one of the most distinctive voices in South African modern music.

Nasty C described their collaboration as effortless, rooted in friendship and shared history.

“Tellaman is a very old friend. I consider him a brother,” he said. “We came up together in the industry and spent a lot of time in the studio together. It was only natural that he did a song with me on the ‘FREE (Deluxe)’ project.”

While “Big Timing” carries a celebratory tone, it also explores deeper themes of resilience, ambition and staying grounded while success grows. The track balances confidence with reflection, showing an artist who is comfortable with where he is, but still aware of where he came from.

Now operating independently, Nasty C says he has reached a point where external validation is no longer his focus.

“I am not chasing validation the same way. I know what I have built, I know what I have survived, and I know where I am going,” he said.

He also noted that independence has given him more freedom to release music on his own terms, with plans to drop new material more frequently and expand his creative output beyond music, including a possible fashion venture.

Born Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo, Nasty C first rose to prominence with early hits like “Juice Back”, quickly establishing himself as one of South Africa’s most successful young rap exports. His discography includes acclaimed projects such as Bad Hair, Strings and Bling and Zulu Man with Some Power, all of which helped solidify his place on the continent’s hip-hop landscape.

As he continues to evolve artistically, “Big Timing” stands as a snapshot of an artist reflecting on how far he has come — and embracing the freedom of defining success on his own terms alongside a collaborator who has been part of the journey from the beginning.
