Musician and producer Mpho.Wav has reunited with acclaimed singer-songwriter Simmy for their emotionally rich new single, Emini.
The collaboration arrives four years after the duo first worked together on Mabhungu, a standout track featured on Simmy’s sophomore album, Tugela Fairy – Made of Stars.
Described as a heartfelt ballad, Emini explores the emotional highs and lows of love, blending soulful storytelling with warm, immersive production that creates both comfort and nostalgia.
“It is simply just about love and its hardships thereof. It’s a musical description of how love can be both a fulfilling and daunting experience, and I’m very excited to have teamed up with my sister Simmy to tell this story,” shared Mpho.Wav.
Inspired by real-life experiences and emotional honesty, the pair have crafted a song that aims to resonate deeply with listeners who appreciate emotionally driven and sonically layered music.
Mpho.Wav, who works under Sun-EL Musician’s label, Under the Sun, as an in-house session musician and music director, explained that collaborating with Simmy had been one of his long-term creative goals since they first met.
According to the producer, Sun-EL Musician also played an important role in motivating and inspiring the collaboration.
“Paying homage to my journey and how we’ve been working together since her sophomore album release, I just had to have her on a record and ‘Emini’ came about at a perfect moment,” he said.
“Working with Simmy has always been nothing short of amazing. She is a well-seasoned songwriter and vocalist, which was very inspiring for me to witness.”
He further described the single as a soundtrack for music lovers and unforgettable moments.
“This record is for all the music-lovers. It’s a beautiful record, a soundtrack to their most memorable moments with a wide range of sonical variations to make them feel, dance and be in love,” he added.
Beyond Emini, the duo are also planning additional collaborations following the upcoming release of Mpho.Wav’s debut album, Book Of Wav, which is expected to drop in spring.
The producer described the album as deeply personal, explaining that every track reflects different chapters of his musical journey.
“It is such a special project to me because each and every record on the album makes reference to letters from the ‘Book Of Wav’, which tell the story of my musical journey till date,” he shared.
The project will also pay tribute to some of the artists who helped shape his sound, including Da Capo, Culoe De Song and Black Coffee.
Book Of Wav is set to feature collaborations with artists including Sun-EL Musician, Malumz On Decks, Da Capo, Simmy, South Sudan, Mthunzi, Fatso98, Lyrik Shoxen and Kenyan vocalist Nyamal Nyang.
“The album will be out this spring for everyone to enjoy and I’m really excited for people to receive my first of many albums,” he said.
Since entering the music scene, Mpho.Wav has built a growing reputation through collaborations and productions involving artists such as Msaki, Nobuhle, Azana, Kenza and Mörda.
Reflecting on his journey in the music industry, the producer credited consistency, adaptability and a willingness to keep learning as the key reasons behind his continued growth.
“I’ve learnt how to work effectively with other artists who have been doing music longer than I have, and I never want to close the door of learning new ways of doing things whether it be in music or the music business,” he explained.
“Being consistent and learning as much as I can helped me grow a lot.”
He also encouraged aspiring musicians to remain dedicated and fearless in sharing their work with the world.
“Be consistent, always create the music and put it out there because you never know who is listening. Stay positive and know that through hard work anything is possible.”
