The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the Supreme Court judgment ruling in its favour regarding the arrest of disgraced doctor Nandipha Magudumana.
The appeals court dismissed Magudumana’s bid on Friday, in which she challenged the lawfulness of her deportation from Tanzania.
Supreme Court
Magudumana and her accomplice Thabo Bester were arrested in April 2023 while on the run after Bester escaped from the Mangaung Prison, where he was serving a life sentence for murder.
NPA Spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga said that they feel vindicated by the judgment.
“It has always been our long-held view that the deportation of Dr Magudumana from Tanzania was a seamless process that was above board, without any untoward conduct on the part of the team that escorted her. We are now focused on ensuring that the trial set down for 20 July up to September does proceed without any undue delay.”
