The Zwartkop Substation in Tshwane is expected to be fully operational by Monday, bringing long-awaited relief to residents affected by an extended power outage.

City officials say technical teams have completed more than 90% of the repair work after a fire, caused by vandalism, damaged the facility earlier this week.

Tshwane Spokesperson Selby Bokaba said that the final step is the delivery of a critical component that connects cables to the main transformer.

“It is, however, encouraging that the factory’s teams also made tremendous progress in the modification process, and the end box is expected to be delivered on site at the latest by Monday, the 26 May 2025. Once the box is delivered, the city’s technicians will do cable connection and conduct the final testing, and the substation will be energised.”
