Western Cape police confiscate at least 24 firearms in hotspot areas over past week! An AK-47 assault rifle and a shotgun were among at least 24 firearms confiscated by police during crime prevention operations in hotspot areas over the past week.

Teams embarked on these operations since last Sunday in a bid to clamp down on gang violence.

“During these operations, police members confiscated 24 firearms, with a total of 371 rounds of ammunition, which includes an AK-47 assault rifle and a shotgun.

“SAPS [South African Police Service] detectives arrested 67 suspects wanted for murder and attempted murder during tracing operations,” said the police’s Wesley Twigg.

Twigg said their crime prevention initiatives will continue.
