Western Cape SANTACO welcomes agreement reached by rival associations over route conflicts! The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in the Western Cape has welcomed an agreement reached by two of the province’s biggest taxi associations to resolve taxi route conflicts.
The Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (CODETA) have been feuding in the past few weeks over routes from Mfuleni and Khayelitsha to Somerset West.

At least eight taxi operators died during this conflict.
Following a series of meetings, it’s been agreed that operators from Mfuleni can transport passengers to and from Somerset West.
Meanwhile, operations on the Khayelitsha to Somerset West route will be monitored and reviewed in three months’ time.
“This agreement reflects the cooperation between CATA and CODETA in fostering a peaceful, safe, and reliable public transportation industry within the province, as well as their commitment to ensuring the safety of commuters. The industry sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused during this time,” said SANTACO provincial secretary, Elryno Saaiers.
