RIP: Late David Mabuza honoured with prayer service at his Barberton family home! The family of the late Deputy President David Mabuza is holding a prayer service at his home in Barberton, Mpumalanga on Monday afternoon.

Hundreds of people from across the province have gathered to offer support and comfort to the bereaved family.

It has been four days since the former deputy president passed away following a short illness.

While journalists are not permitted inside Mabuza’s home where a prayer service is underway, sorrowful hymns sung by mourners gathered here can be heard from outside.

It’s the comfort from Mabuza’s friends and political allies that has helped keep the grieving family strong as they struggle to accept his passing.

Beyond the gates of his farm, those unable to enter also gather, singing to honour his memory.

African National Congress (ANC) Deputy Secretary-General Nomvula Mokonyane said that Mabuza was indeed a people’s person.

“We have all agreed that we must tell the story of the person, David Mabuza, an activist, a patriot, and a leader of the ANC.”

Many have remembered him for championing unity within the ANC, with some saying that weeks before his death, Mabuza was concerned about the state of the party.
