The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is planning to appeal a court decision to grant 12 South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members bail.
On Friday morning, the Randburg Magistrates Court granted the soldiers R10,000 bail each, following their arrest in June.
The twelve are facing charges of murder and kidnapping, linked to the alleged kidnapping of Abdella Hussain Abadiga and Kadir Jemal Abotese.

They also face charges related to the assassination of Hawks investigator Frans Mathipa, who was shot dead in 2023.
At the time of his murder, Mathipa was investigating the army’s special forces link to the alleged kidnapping of Hussain Abadiga and Jemal Abotese.
NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says they have requested a postponement to July 17th for leave to appeal.
“The prosecution presented a comprehensive affidavit from the investigating officer, stating that the accused are a danger to society as they are trained in using high-calibre firearms to eliminate any threat. His affidavit further detailed how each accused was linked to the allegations and how the accused allegedly attempted to get rid of the vehicle linked to the murder of Col. Mathipa.”
