The attacker reportedly struck her repeatedly on the head with a rock.
SANParks said that its rangers were called to the scene and administered first aid, while other teams searched the area for the suspect.
Her husband, Ken Noble, shared the details of the assault.
“This mad man hit her over the head with a rock, three times, four times, then tried to gouge her eye out. She required four hours of surgery to repair her scalp, then eye surgery, and she’s lost 50% of her vision in her left eye.”
