Women’s Day: DA marches in Gugulethu against GBV! The Democratic Alliance (DA) took to the streets of Gugulethu on Saturday morning in a march against gender-based violence (GBV).
The demonstration focused on the ongoing police DNA backlog, which the party said was delaying justice for GBV survivors.

Joined by community members, the DA handed over a memorandum demanding urgent action to ensure the protection of GBV survivors.
The DA’s Siviwe Gwarube said the DNA backlog remains a serious barrier in the fight for justice.
“In particular, the issue of DNA backlogs that continue to undermine efforts to put perpetrators of sexual violence against women behind bars.”
Gwarube added that the march not only highlighted the progress made in advancing women’s rights but also called for stronger protections for women in today’s society.
“And so also, it’s important to also note that this is an area that has also been besieged with a lot of violence and also just continues to be a high-risk area, particularly for women and children.”
