Gun violence sees 13 killed in a week in Cape Town

Separate gun violence incidents across the Mother City have claimed at least 13 lives just this week alone.

Police have asked for any information that can help them track down the suspects after shootings were reported in several suburbs.

On Sunday morning, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Muizenberg started investigating two shootings in Overcome Heights and in Seawinds that claimed four lives.

The Cape Flats Community Police Forum (CPF)’s chairperson, Abe Isaacs, said law enforcement agencies need to step up and properly address the issue of gun violence.

We are concerned with the escalating gun violence in and around the Cape Flats. We have consistently called for a special probe to be set up to deal with gun violence. We have also noted that during these couple of weeks, there’s been an escalation in what we call mass shootings.”
