Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) have honoured the life of Sergeant Lawrence Dumisani Mtshweni, who was killed in the line of duty.
Mtshweni was part of a group of officers responding to a business burglary in Schoemansdal, Mpumalanga last week, when they were ambushed by a group of ten suspects.
To date, one suspect has been arrested while three others, who were traced to Eswatini, were confronted by police.

Two were killed in a shoot-out, and the third is believed to have taken his own life before he could be arrested.
Mtshweni death came barely 24 hours after two detectives were gunned down in Gauteng – leading to calls for the Police Ministry to act decisively against criminality and restore public trust in the police.
Speaking at Mtshweni’s funeral in Schoemansdal on Saturday, Mpumalanga’s acting provincial police commissioner, Zeph Mkhwanazi, paid tribute to the fallen officer.
“It is a profound loss not only to Jhis family and friends but to the entire South African Police Service, community and society, he diligently served. Today we remember his love, his unwavering professional conduct and his commitment to justice we celebrate his life, and the positive impact he made on so many lives during his time with us.”
