A primary school in Lotus River was also asked to close its doors early following threats on a WhatsApp group that gang members were targeting school children.
Lotus River residents were left dumbstruck by the attack, as the area had been quiet for some time.
Cape Flats Safety Forum chairperson, Abe Isaacs, said the crisis of unlicensed firearms on the Cape Flats was alarming.
“This takes us back to the situation in 2017, where firearms got stolen out of Mitchells Plain. In 2023, firearms again got stolen. At this stage, as the Cape Flats Safety Forum, we don’t know how many of those firearms have been retrieved and how many of those firearms are still in circulation, so we are calling for the probe to be set up.”
