Parliament condemns attack on 3 MPs in Philippi! Parliament has condemned the attack on three Democratic Alliance (DA) MPs in Philippi.

Police committee chairperson, Ian Cameron, and National Council of Provinces (NCOP) member, Nicholas Gotsell, both sustained injuries to their faces and heads during an attempted hijacking on Tuesday.

MP Lisa Schickerling was also in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

They were returning from an oversight visit to the police training college in Philippi when they came under attack in their vehicle.

An 18-year-old suspect, believed to have been shot during the attack, is in hospital under police guard.

Western Cape commissioner

Officers nabbed a 16-year-old suspect in Browns Farm in the early hours of Wednesday morning and warned that a third arrest was imminent.

Parliament Spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo: “The presiding officers expressed deep concern, noting that such shocking acts of criminality not only endanger the lives of elected representatives and members of the public but also undermine Parliament’s constitutional duty to hold organs of the state accountable through oversight.”
