Sixty-one suspects arrested during a police crackdown in crime hotspots in the Durban metro on Friday night are expected to appear in court soon.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says the suspects were arrested in connection with crimes such as murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, hijackings and robbery.
Police officers from various police stations, the eThekwini metro police and the Correctional Services Department took part in the operation.
Gwala explains, “A total of 61 suspects were arrested for various crimes. Stop and searches were conducted and traffic fines were issued to those who failed to adhere to the National Traffic Act. Foot patrols were also conducted. A suspect was arrested on Dr Pixley Ka Seme Street after he was found in unlawful possession of a firearm and 18 rounds of ammunition whilst another was nabbed in possession of 10 rounds of ammunition.
