The Eswatini Police Commissioner William Dlamini, who died on Saturday, 7 October after collapsing at OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA), has been described as humble and soft-spoken.

At the time of the unfortunate incident, the police commissioner was on his way from Angola to the Kingdom of Eswatini, where he was attending the 26th Interpol African Regional Conference.

The National Commissioner of police, General Fannie Masemola, was modest about the Commissioner, saying William was a “soft spoken and committed senior police officer” who had worked to improve cooperation in the fight against transnational organised crime in the region.

“Our sincere condolences go to the Royal Eswatini Police Service and the family. Commissioner Dlamini was a humble and dedicated man who served the cause.

“He was always ready to discuss collaboration in preventing and combating cross border crime in the SADC region,” Masemola said.

National Police spokeswoman Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said both the family and the delegation that accompanied the late Commissioner on his official trip received psychosocial services from psychologists at the SAPS Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) Unit.

In light of the incident, Mathe said ORTIA police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, the Eswatini government has expressed condolences over the incident.

“The Kingdom of Eswatini has lost a brave, humble, and loyal servant of their Majesties and the nation.

“We urge the nation to keep the Royal Eswatini Police Service and the Dlamini family in their prayers at this sad time.”
