The South African Communist Party (SACP) says lack of respect for the African National Congress (ANC) political mandate has thrown the country into a worse situation. This came out at the end of its three-day Central Committee meeting in Johannesburg on Sunday. The meeting was called to discuss the party’s position ahead of the elections next year as well as the government’s austerity measures and other neo-liberal policies, among others.

The SACP is unrelenting on its call for the reconfiguration of its alliance with the governing ANC. The party says an optimally working alliance will be the answer to many of the challenges facing the country.

According to a World Bank report, South Africa currently is deemed the most unequal society in the world. Statistics South Africa revealed that the unemployment rate is standing at over 32%.

SACP General Secretary, Solly Mapaila, says this is partly because government has not fully implemented the objectives of the past manifestos of the ANC over the past elections. He says the problem is exacerbated by private business, which has opened the floodgates of corruption in the country.

Following the recent visit to China by some in the ANC and the SACP for political school, Mapaila implored his comrades to learn from their ally, the Communist Party of China.

He says in China, government plans are not changed willy-nilly by government ministers like in South Africa. Mapaila however warned against blaming ANC for all the wrongs in the country, saying business must also take responsibility.
