South Africa’s military to be redesigned for the 21st Century

South Africa has deployed almost 3,000 soldiers to conflict-ridden eastern DRC. Thousands of people have fled the east of the country as M23 rebels take key towns.

It’s believed they are fast approaching the North Kivu capital of Goma.

Rwanda is accused of supporting the rebels, sparking fears of a wider regional conflict. The SANDF will work alongside DRC security forces to fight the insurgents.
