Joburg Mayor says City Power to offer tariff relief option to industrial customers! While soaring electricity tariffs in Johannesburg are here to stay, the city is offering relief to customers struggling to service their monthly power bills.

However, Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero said the relief programme would only be made available to industrial customers and not households.

Last year, prepaid electricity users in Johannesburg were hit hard by a mandatory R200 surcharge imposed by City Power.

Speaking during his State of the City Address in Braamfontein on Wednesday, Morero acknowledged the financial burden caused by the continuously rising tariffs.

Dada Morero

“The city is aware of the high electricity tariffs our customers are paying, especially industrial customers. These customers are major employers in our city, and we need to support them so they are sustainable and financially viable. Through City Power, we will provide a relief tariff option to our industrial customers.”
