Community members handed over a memorandum of demands to officials at the Florida police station, accusing police of dragging their feet in the investigation into Jayden Lee Meek’s death.
The 11-year-old’s body was found naked and covered in bruises, just outside his family’s unit, on Wednesday morning.
During her address outside the police station, local leader Lori Richards said the gruesome incident had left many in the community living in fear.
“The brutal murder of 11-year-old Jayden Lee Meek has shaken our community to its core. The lack of progress, absence of arrests, and overall response from the SAPS during the search and investigation reflect a disturbing lack of urgency and seriousness. We demand a thorough investigation that leads to arrests and convictions.”
Richards also called for a dedicated police station to be built in Fleurhof, saying the community needed better protection and quicker police intervention.
