59-year-old police captain accused of raping trainees at academy granted R8,000 bail! A Pretoria police college captain accused of raping and s.e.xually assaulting trainees has been released on bail.
The 59-year-old officer who was arrested for allegedly raping a 20-year-old trainee and sexually assaulting another was granted R8,000 bail by the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) says it is alleged that both incidents, the first in March and the latest just last month, took place in his office at the Pretoria Police Training Academy.
In the most recent case, the trainee was allegedly walking with her platoon to the sleeping quarters when she was called aside by the captain.
Once inside his office, he allegedly locked the door and told her that if she didn’t sleep with him, he’d file a misconduct report for failing to salute him the previous month.
IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping says the watchdog has noted a disturbing trend in rape cases involving police officials.
“Reported cases of rape by police officers while on duty is also higher as compared to rape when officers are off duty.”
