Gauteng officials to assess foot-and-mouth outbreak at Karan Beef! Gauteng MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa, will join Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen on Monday for an oversight visit to the Karan Beef feedlot in Heidelberg.
This follows the confirmation of a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak earlier in June at the facility.
Outbreak Spreads Across Provinces
Since the initial report, additional cases have surfaced at Karan Beef locations in Nigel, Gauteng, and Albert Falls, KwaZulu-Natal. The outbreak has now been confirmed in four provinces: Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, and the North West, causing widespread concern within the red meat industry.
